Nanya, October sales down by 20%

Thursday, November 4, 2010

Nanya Technology saw revenues decline about 17% sequentially to NT$3.78 billion (US$124 million) in October 2010, while Inotera Memories' sales decreased 19% to NT$2.9 billion.

Nanya saw its October sales affected by some PC vendors' requests to defer shipments, as the clients are preparing their financial reports for the quarter ended October 31. Contract price drops are also another attributing factor.

Nanya accumulated NT$48.53 billion in revenues from January to October, still showing growth compared to the NT$31.44 billion posted during the same period of 2009.

Inotera, which supplies half of its output to Nanya, also suffered an almost 20% decrease sequentially in October revenues. Revenues for the first 10 months of 2010 totaled NT$35.64 billion.

Inotera is a DRAM-manufacturing joint venture between Nanya and Micron Technology. The JV's bit shipments for the fourth quarter are set to increase 70-80% from the prior quarter thanks to the ramp-up of 50nm stack technology.

Also buoyed by a production ramp using more advanced processes, Nanya expects to see bit shipments climb by 60% sequentially in the fourth quarter. Both Nanya and Inotera intend to grow their shipments to minimize the impact of chip price falls.
