Intel is set to launch its latest Sandy Bridge processor at CES 2011 in January 2011, and will account for 20% of Intel's total desktop CPU shipments in the first quarter of 2011.

Since Intel is targeting the performance level market and up with its Sandy Bridge processor, motherboard makers are all aggressively preparing compatible 6-series motherboards and expect the new products to contribute strong profits and shipments in the first half.

The enterprise market's PC replacement trend as well as delayed demand from the second half of 2010 are also expected to boost sales in first-quarter 2011, and if the issues such as component shortages and the economic outlook improve, motherboard shipments may break historical records in March, like in 2009.

Asustek Computer and Gigabyte Technology have already started promotions and are expected to ship 5.8 and five million units of brand motherboards in the first quarter of 2011.

Gigabyte is ready to launch its P67A-UD7 motherboards with the company's latest power-saving and enhanced component technologies, while Asustek is set to launch several motherboards under its ROG series, specifically designed for gamers.
