TI expands R&D Lab in Bangalore

Thursday, December 23, 2010 Texas Instruments Inc. has announced an expansion of its Kilby Labs R&D in Bangalore, India, according to local reports.

TI has been present in India for 25 years. Kilby Labs was announced in September 2008 and opened in Dallas in January 2009. The Labs is named after Jack Kilby one of the inventors of the integrated circuit in 1958.

Since its opening in Dallas in January 2009, Kilby Labs has completed five projects and launched one new business unit, local reports said.

The reports did not say how much money TI would invest in Kilby Labs Bangalore or how many researchers would be employed there. Kilby Labs India will be led by Venu Gopinathan, who joined TI India in June 2010, according to the reports.

Projects will include such topics and energy efficiency and bio-electronics and life sciences. "The objective is to foster breakthrough ideas by giving them whatever they need, to nurture, and then demonstrate them right inside these labs," a Cyber Media Online report quoted Gopinathan as saying.
