Transcend Information has moved its global manufacturing base from China back to Taiwan.

The new facilities in Taipei are equipped with 20 production lines and have officially gone online this January. Transcend is scheduled to complete transferring operation from its old plants to the new facilities around Lunar New Year.

Transcend had begun planning for the move back to Taiwan in 2009. Previously, plants in China constituted 70% of the company's production capacity. Now the new facility will ultimately have monthly capacity of 7.7 million units. Transcend will commence a portion of the new capacity initially and expand according to market conditions.

Despite the move, Transcend remains bullish on the China market. China contributed 10% of the company's total revenues in 2010 and significant growth is expected for this year. Taiwan's proportion will stay at roughly 14%. Europe was the largest market with a 35% share in 2010.

Taipei capacity will focus on own-brand production, and the plant in Shanghai, China will mostly handle contract manufacturing.
