Adata Technology has announced net losses of NT$171 million (US$5.88 million), or NT$0.76 per share, for the fourth quarter of 2010 due to a 50% drop in DRAM chip prices.
For all of 2010, net losses were NT$143 million, translating into a net loss of NT$0.64 per share. Gross margin for 2010 stood at 3.97% on consolidated revenues of NT$41.35 billion.
Adata is projecting a rebound in sales in the first quarter of 2011 as prices for NAND flash and DRAM chips will both become steady.
Adata actually began to build up its NAND flash inventory in the fourth quarter of 2010, reaching NT$3.86 billion at the end of the quarter, the company said.
Spot DRAM chip prices already jumped 20% in the past two days, a correction from a steep drop recorded a quarter earlier and low inventory levels at the downstream sectors, noted industry sources.
