The global shipment volume of 3D notebooks, active-shutter and polarized glasses models together, as a percentage of total shipments will increase from below 1% in 2010 to 2% in 2011, according to industry sources based on international vendors' 2011 product roadmaps. This is mainly due to increased demand for playing 3D games as well as software for playing 3D movies becoming mature, the sources pointed out.
Currently, shutter glass 3D panels are supplied mainly by Samsung Electronics, Sony, Chimei Innolux and Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT), while polarized 3D panels are supplied by LG Display and AU Optronics (AUO), the sources noted.
Since both 3D technologies still require glasses for their effect, the sources pointed out that 3D technology that can be viewed with the naked eye is the ultimate goal and will become the key for 3D notebooks to become mainstream products
