Acer has seen its shipments move forward steadily in the first quarter of 2011 after an unexpected decline in the previous quarter, and expects notebook shipments as well as consolidated revenues to grow 3% sequentially in the quarter, according to Jim Wong, president of IT product business group at Acer.
Wong said, shipments of notebooks and netbooks will continue to advance in the second quarter and shipments of tablets will begin to generate revenues starting March-April.
While the design issue found recently in Intel's Sandy Bridge related chipsets may slightly affect the launch of new models, the overall impact on Acer's notebook shipments will be limited, probably falling in a range of just 1-2%, Wong asserted.
In 2011, Acer's shipments of notebooks are expected to grow 15-20% to reach 40-45 million units and smartphone shipments to top over five million units, Wong projected.
