Atmel reported sales for the quarter of $457.8 million, up 3 percent sequentially and up 33 percent year-to-year.
The company reported a net income in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles of $223.1 million.
Atmel said its fourth quarter GAAP net income included a tax benefit of $133.1 million. Net income for the previous quarter also included a tax benefit of $150.4 million, Atmel said.
Atmel's fourth quarter numbers exceeded consensus analysts' expectations, which called for sales of $436 million and non-GAAP earnings of 16 cents per share, according to Yahoo Finance.
For the full year 2010, Atmel reported sales of $1.64 billion, up 25 percent compared with 2009.
