Chinese privately-held telecom equipment maker Huawei Technologies Co. Tuesday announced a range of new smart devices including an Android-based tablet and a super slim smartphone.
At the ongoing Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Huawei presented its new Ideos S7 Slim tablet, based on version 2.2 of Google Inc's (GOOG) Android software.
The launch of the tablet is planned for April and should cost around GBP350-400 before subsidies, the company said.
Huawei also announced a new super slim Ideos X3 smartphone, just 11.2 millimeters deep with a 3.2 inch display. The phone is based on the latest version of Android, Gingerbread, and will start shipping in March at around GBP150 before subsidies.
The company also introduced two new WiFi access points which should serve as personal media centers for the user and which will start shipping in May.
Victor Xu, Chief Marketing Officer at Huawei Devices, said his company sees rapid sales and market growth in coming months.
Huawei Devices, which is a subsidiary of Huawei, expects to generate sales of around USD6 billion in 2011, up from USD4.5 billion in 2010, he said.
Huawei Devices shipped over 3 million smartphones in 2010, and it plans to ship more than 10 million in 2011, mainly based on Android software, he said.
