Dell has roadmap for phones, and Tablets

Thursday, February 17, 2011 Dell announced the Streak 7 at the CES 2011 and was rumored of working on a 10-inch tablet. Two websites - Android Central and Windows Phone Central - got their hands on the Dell smartphones and tablets roadmaps that hint about nine new products in the lineup. The upcoming Dell smartphones carry one Windows Phone 7 based model and two Android 2.4 Ice Cream based models. Even the tablet family will see two new models this year and three new models in the coming year.

The Dell smartphone and tablet roadmaps indicate that the company would be rolling out more models to stay on top of the growing market in both segments. Apart from roadmaps, there are hints that Windows Phone 7 Next Gen and Android Ice Cream would be released later this year.

Let's take a look at both roadmaps one by one.

Dell has already introduced Google Android based Venue and Windows Phone 7 based Venue Pro.

Wrigley: Follows in the footsteps of Venue Pro and would be a QWERTY slider. Bearing 4-inch WVGA (800x480) screen, Wrigley will run Windows Phone 7 Next Gen (with major update). It packs 1GHz CPU and 8 megapixel camera that is capable or recording 720p HD video. Set to arrive in August this year.

Hancock: Dual-core processor loaded smartphone will run Android Ice Cream update. It flaunts a 4-inch qHD touchscreen 960x540 display, 8 megapixel camera at the back capable of recording 1080p HD video and 1.3 megapixel camera in the front. Due for September launch.

Millennium: Dual-core CPU bearing Millennium will also run Android Ice Cream and will have 4.3-inch qHD display with 960x540 pixel resolution, 8 megapixel camera with 1080p HD video recording, front facing VGA camera, and DLNA certified. Expected to arrive in October this year.

Apparently, Dell Streak 5 and Dell Streak 7 will get successors. Four tablets would be based on Android 3.0 Honeycomb, one would be based on Windows 7 and one based on Windows 8.

Peju: Surprisingly, Dell has listed Windows 8 based tablet codenamed Peju with 10-inch display for first quarter of 2012. It s a slim possibility whether Microsoft will show Windows 8 based tablets. The company was heavily rumored to show Windows 8 tablet at this CES 2011.

Rosemount: Dell s first Windows 7 based tablet bearing 1366x768 HD resolution for a 10-inch display is expected to launch in June this year.

-Two Android 3.0 Honeycomb based tablets are expected this year 10-inch display bearing Gallo in April and 7-inch display bearing Sterling in October.

- Two Android 3.0 Honeycomb based tablets expected in first quarter of next year 5-inch display bearing Opus One and 7-inch display bearing Silver Oak.

As the slides note that these plans are not concrete and can change in due course of time. Who knows if a few of them actually get canned. You never know with plans. However, the upcoming smartphones and tablets certainly look intriguing.
