Memory packaging and testing firm Powertech Technology (PTI) has announced that consolidated revenues for February 2011 grew 14.3% from a year earlier to NT$3.2 billion (US$109 million).
PTI's February sales decreased by only 1.5% compared to the prior month, despite fewer working days.
Market sources were quoted as saying in previous reports that PTI would enjoy growing orders for mobile DRAM chips in the first quarter, while orders for PC DRAM are affected by production cutbacks at several chip clients. PTI's consolidated revenues for the quarter may slightly defy seasonal patterns.
PTI revealed at its most recent investors meeting that the company plans to allocate about NT$2 billion for the expansion of capacity for mobile DRAM products in 2011, in order to accommodate strong demand coming from the smartphone and tablet PC sectors. PTI budgeted NT$10 billion in capex for 2011.
As for NAND flash, PTI said previously that shipments to a new client starting the first quarter would grow its monthly output by 10 million units. In addition, the company has landed new orders for logic ICs and begun small volume shipments since the first quarter, it added.
