Acer cuts 100 job in China operation

Monday, March 28, 2011

Acer is looking to eliminate more than 100 jobs at its operations in China, equivalent to about 10% of the company's total workforce stationed in the region, according to China media reports.

Acer indicated that a number organizational changes have been implemented for its China unit, including layoffs to help streamline operations and root out redundancies. The move is to integrate resources between Acer and Founder Technology in procurement, production, logistics and marketing.

Acer in August 2010 announced its tie-up with China-based Founder, under which Acer will be responsible for the operation of most of the Founder-branded PC business in terms of planning, marketing and supply chain management of PC products for the China Market. Founder will provide capacity support with its Suzhou plant, and access to its channel network across the country.

Acer aims to grow its notebook market share in China to 13-15% in 2011.
