Motorola has announced pre-order for 200 of its 10-inch Xoom tablet PC in Taiwan with the price of the 32GB model at NT$19,980 (US$678) and will start shipping on April 20.
The Xoom tablet PC adopts Android 3.0 and Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, while featuring a similar industrial design as Asustek Computer's recently announced Eee Pad Transformer.
Sources from notebook makers also pointed out that most of the tablet PC vendors have decided to maintain their price instead cutting the price to compete against iPad 2 since upstream component shortage is gradually spreading into downstream and limiting the vendors' shipments; as a result, cutting price to boost the demand will not benefit the vendors as they will not have enough inventory to sell.
Price cut is likely to occur after June, when component shortage is resolved and market demand for iPad-like models increases, the sources added.
