Nanya plans to increase chip prices 5% in April

Friday, April 1, 2011

Nanya Technology plans to raise prices about 5% in April, as PC OEMs are active in building up their inventory.

Industry leader Samsung Electronics has informed its clients that the company would increase prices 5-6% in the first half of April, the report indicated. Contract quotes for 2Gb DDR3 chips are expected to hover above US$2, the report said.

Contract prices for DRAM memory began trending upward in the second half of March, amid concerns about a potential wafer shortage stemming from Japan's recent disasters. According to DRAMeXchange, prices for mainstream 2Gb chips averaged US$1.91 during the period, up about 3%.
