Samsung to use Nvidia's Tegra 2 Processor

Friday, April 8, 2011

Nvidia is expected to include Samsung Electronics in the client list for its Tegra 2 processors soon after the graphics chipset giant managed to win orders from Motorola and LG Electronics (LGE) for the production of Atrix 4G and LG Optimus 2X smartphones.

In addition to Samsung, Nvidia is set to announce its fourth smartphone partner in the near future and Nvidia is already co-developing devices with the currently-unknown partner.

In the fourth quarter of 2011, Nvidia is set to launch its 40nm Tegra 3 processor (Kal-El), featuring a quad-core design and will be five times faster than Tegra 2. The quad-core processor will be manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) with actual products to be released as early as December.

After Tegra 3, Nvidia is set to launch more ARM-based processors including Wayne, Logan and Stark throughout 2014.

LG recently launched its new Optimus 2X smartphone in Taiwan featuring Tegra 2. With the processor's dual-core design and low power consumption even when running video or audio, the smartphone is expected to provide its users an even better experience than the original single-core model.
