Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. reported March sale were about $1.29 billion, an increase of 14.1 percent over February 2011 and an increase of 16.9 percent over March 2010.
Over the last decade TSMC has averaged a sequential rise in monthly sales in March of about 6.7 percent.
The above-trend sales at TSMC would seem to indicate that there has been no detrimental short-term effect on sales from the Japan earthquake of March 11. Observers are still cautious about the second quarter and expect leading chip companies to reduce guidance.
On an unconsolidated basis, TSMC's net sales were approximately NT$36.37 billion (about $1.25 billion), an increase of 14.5 percent over February 2011 and an increase of 18 percent over March 2010.
Consolidated TSMC revenues for January through March 2011 totaled NT$105.38 billion (about $3.64 billion), an increase of 14.3 percent compared to the same period in 2010. Unconsolidated revenues for January through March 2011 totaled NT$102.55 billion (about $3.54 billion), an increase of 15 percent compared to the same period in 2010.
