Intel Corp. and Micron Technology Inc. will make an announcement about NAND flash on Thursday.
The companies have not disclosed the details. ''I believe that they will announce the finalization of their Singapore agreement-IMFS-that will bring up 25-nm first and then 20-nm later,'' said Alan Niebel, CEO of Web-Feet Research.
Intel and Micron have a NAND joint venture called IM Flash Technologies (IMFT). The venture's new fab in Singapore is ramping up.
Micron has begun producing limited NAND wafers at its new 300-mm fab venture in Singapore, but the company is missing an important piece of the puzzle: Intel. The chip giant is not investing in the Singapore fab, as previously thought. Perhaps Intel has had a change of heart.
But as reported, Intel and Micron are seeking to retake the NAND technology lead with a 20-nm NAND part.
