Transcend predicts 100 million module shipment for 2011

Friday, May 27, 2011

Transcend Information expects its own-brand shipments to top 100 million units of DRAM modules and NAND flash products in 2011, up from the 80 million shipped in 2010, according to company chairman Peter Shu.

Transcend recently opened a new plant in Taipei, northern Taiwan, which will be dedicated to producing the company's own-brand products such as industrial DRAM modules and NAND flash-based memory devices, said Shu. The existing plant in Shanghai, China, will remain as the company's main production spot for OEM products.

Transcend will gradually increase capacity at its new plant in Taiwan, adding more SMT (surface-mount technology) lines for a total of 18 SMT lines ultimately, Shu indicated. At the moment, the plant houses nine operational SMT lines, Shu added.

Shu disclosed that Transcend has expanded its exposure to customers in China and the South America. The ratio of its sales in China is expected to climb substantially to reach 10-15% in 2011, Shu said.

Shu also commented that Transcend is likely to see June revenues return to a sequential growth track, as seasonal demand starts emerging.

In addition, Shu noted that the company plans to raise its employees' base salaries by 10% on average. The pay rise will be the largest over the past 10 years, Shu said.
