Acer has begun shipping notebooks from its production base in Chongqing, western China, according to a company announcement.
Shipments of notebooks from Chongqing will account for 30-40% of Acer's total notebook shipments in the second half of 2011.
Company president Jim Wong presided over a ceremony held to mark the inauguration of shipments from Chongqing on May 26. Representatives of Acer's major production partners including Quanta Computer, Compal Electronics, Wistron and Pegatron all attended the event.
The shipments mark the beginning of substantial production from the Chongqing plant which will be instrumental to Acer's global competition, Wong stated.
In other news, notebook production plants being set up by Compal and Wistron in Chongqing are both slated for volume production in the third quarter, according to industry sources.
