Hewlett-Packard aims to ship 12 million notebooks in the third quarter of 2011, according to industry sources.
HP has become more positive about the third quarter following a recent reshuffle of its top management in which Stephen DeWitt was appointed to lead HP's webOS global business unit, according to industry sources.
The reshuffle will also have limited impact on HP's procurement from Taiwan suppliers, commented the sources. Instead, the active purchases by HP for the third quarter may encourage other brand notebook vendors to also take on more deliveries from their ODM partners.
The move by HP will also drive revenue growth at its production partners, including Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry), Quanta Computer and Inventec, for the third quarter, the sources estimated.
