Acer is expected to take up delivery of 30,000 units of its 7-inch Iconia A100 tablet PCs from ODM Compal Electronics in July and increase the volume to 100,000 units in the August-September.
For the third quarter as a whole, Acer's shipments of tablet PCs are expected to top 300,000-400,000 units.
After the launch of the 7-inch tablets in the third quarter, Acer will roll out its new series of Intel-based Ultrabook notebooks in the fourth quarter. Acer has strongly touted the new models indicating the Ultrabooks will boot in six seconds and link to Internet in 2.5 seconds.
Acer's Ultrabook models are expected to carry a price tag of over US$1,000 as the company is shifting from its previous focus on low-priced models to more added-value products, the sources indicated.
With Acer's operations expected to swing back to a normal track in the third quarter, shipments of notebooks from Compal, the leading notebook ODM for Acer, are likely to grow 5-10% sequentially in the quarter, the sources asserted
