Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) has announced the appointment of Tzu-Yin Chiu as CEO.

Pointing to Chiu's 27 years of experience in the semiconductor industry, SMIC emphasized that Chiu's in-depth knowledge of China's semiconductor industry would assist the company to improve its market position and identify future growth.

Prior to joining SMIC, Chiu held executive positions at a number of semiconductor companies including Hua Hong NEC Electronics Company (HHNEC), Shanghai Huali Microelectronics and Silterra Malaysia. Chiu also previously served as senior director of fab operations at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (TSMC).
