Asustek Computer has announced non-consolidated revenues of NT$31.86 billion (US$1.1 billion) for July, up 13% on month and 38% on year, representing a new monthly high for the company. The company shipped 1.3 million notebooks in the month, also a monthly record.
Asustek pointed out that the revenue growth was mainly benefited by the recovery of its notebook shipments in China and Eastern Europe, while its tablet PC's monthly shipments of 300,000 units also made a contribution. For revenues in the third quarter, the company will also have chance to achieve a new historical high and is expecting to perform better than most of its competitors in the second half of the year, the company noted.
Commenting on market watchers' concerns that Asustek may not achieve its notebook shipment goal for 2011, company CFO David Chang confirmed that its Eee PC (netbook) shipments will be unable to achieve the goal of six million units for 2011 and will only reach about 4-4.5 million units. However, with the strong demand of its Eee Pad Transformer tablet, which has a higher average selling price (ASP) and gross margin, to help cover the gap, the company is expected to achieve strong revenues and profitability, Chang added.
Asustek already shipped eight million notebooks and netbooks combined in the first half of the year and shipments will reach six million units in the third quarter and 4-4.5 million units in the fourth quarter, the company's annual shipments of notebook and netbook are estimated to reach about 18.5-19 million units, market watchers predicted.
As for motherboards, Asustek performed strongly and shipped 11.4 million units in the first half due to competitor Gigabyte Technology had some operation issues, but as Gigabyte returning normal in the second half, while demand in Europe is weakening, Asustek is expected to maintain its shipment volume in the second half as in the first with annual shipment volume to reach about 22.5-23 million units.
