TSMC reports revenue down by 3.4% in July

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has announced consolidated revenues of NT$35.43 billion (US$1.22 billion) for July, down 3.4% on month and 4.8% on year.

TSMC accumulated NT$251.32 billion in consolidated sales from January through July, representing an increase of 7.2% compared to the same period of 2010.

TSMC also revealed that beginning in July 2011, revenues generated by Global Unichip (GUC) are no longer included in its consolidated results. "This reduced TSMC July revenues by NT$149 million, with an 0.4pp impact when compared with June and year-ago revenues," TSMC said in a statement.

"In other words, If GUC continued to be included in consolidated revenues, TSMC's July consolidated revenues would have declined 3% from June 2011 and 4.4% from the year-ago period," TSMC continued.

TSMC's unconsolidated revenues for July 2011 were NT$34.92 billion, down 2.1% on month and 3.4% from a year ago.

TSMC at its recent investors meeting gave a less-optimistic outlook for the third quarter of 2011, citing weakened economic conditions. Consolidated revenues for the third quarter are estimated at NT$102-104 billion, down 6-8% from NT$110.51 billion in the prior quarter.

Fellow foundry house United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) registered revenues of NT$8.81 billion in July 2011, down 4.1% on month and 18.6% on year. UMC also pointed out a particularly weak third quarter, when the company would see revenues decline 11-13%.
