NAND flash controller IC maker Phison Electronics has announced net profits of NT$448 million (US$15.43 million) for the second quarter of 2011, bringing total net earnings for the first half of the year to NT$1.097 billion, according to a company filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE).
EPS came to NT$2.52 for the second quarter and NT$6.18 for the January-June period, which met market expectations.
But gross margin fell to 11.9% in the second quarter compared to 14.8% recorded in the first quarter due to declined prices of NAND flash chips and the appreciation of the NT dollar.
Having declined significantly in the second quarter of 2011, NAND flash contract prices are expected to stabilize in the third quarter, Phison chairman Khein Seng Pau said earlier.
