Gigabyte Technology is expected to see its revenues continue to slip by a single-digit rate sequentially in the fourth quarter of 2011 due to the weaker-than-expected global economy.
Gigabyte shipped about 5.1 million motherboards in the third quarter and still aims to ship 19-20 million motherboards for the whole year.
Shipments of graphics cards totaled over 2.25 million units in the first nine months of the year, with whole-year shipments likely to reach three million units, the same level recorded in 2010.
Gigabyte has cooperated with Qualcomm to venture into the entry-level to mid-range smartphone market in China and expects its handset business to swing to profitability for the first time in 2011.
With its notebook shipments likely to reach 300,000 units in 2011, Gigabyte will still be unable to generate profits from its notebook business in 2011.
