Samsung Electronics gained share in the DRAM market in the third quarter of 2011.
The overall market for DRAM memory chips shrank 19.4% sequentially to US$6.57 billion in the third quarter.
Samsung managed to extend its already-commanding lead. Samsung's market share edged up to 44.8% in the third quarter from 41.4% in the second, though DRAM revenues for the company decreased 12.8% to US$2.94 billion from US$3.37 billion.
The second and third biggest producers, Hynix and Elpida, lost some ground in the third quarter while suffering over 20% revenue declines on quarter, DRAMeXchange said.
