Quanta Computer has obtained ODM orders for 9-10 million notebooks to be shipped in 2012 from Acer, more than double the order volume in 2011, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.
Quanta obtained orders for 13-, 14- and 17-inch models for shipments in 2012 from Acer, accounting for 40% of Acer's total notebook orders in 2012, the sources pointed out. In 2011, Quanta accounted for less than 20% of Acer's shipments, the sources indicated. Quanta has jumped from a second-tier ODM for Acer to a major one parallel to Compal Electronics, the sources noted.
Quanta's goal for ODM orders in 2012 focuses on profitability rather than order volume, company chairman Barry Lam emphasized. Quanta expects to ship 57 million notebooks in 2011, increasing 9.4% from 2010, and looks to 5-10% on-year growth in 2012, according to company vice chairman CC Leung
