Asustek Computer report its shipments to drop more than 10% sequentially, up from less than 5% originally and Gigabyte Technology expects a drop of more than 20%, up from 10-15%.
Gigabyte's motherboard shipments in October reached only 1-1.05 million units, down 30% on month, because the company is working on reducing inventory levels from 3-4 weeks to 1-2 weeks. However, after the significant drop in October shipments, Gigabyte' shipments in November are expected to rise slightly on month due to the launch of new products, the paper added.
Intel is set to launch its latest high-end X79 chipset soon, motherboard players are reducing their shipment forecasts for the fourth quarter due to hard drive shortages which have significantly impacted the demand in the PC DIY market.
