RIM (Research in Motion) has unveiled its new platform, the BlackBerry 10, at the 2011 BlackBerry Developer Conference Asia. The BlackBerry 10 OS will support smartphones, tablet PCs and embedded telematics devices, according to George Staikos, vice president for Web technologies at RIM.
The BlackBerry 10 also supports cloud computing services, a native development environment, HTML5, BBM networking services, wireless e-mail and mobile payment functionality, Staiko added.
Over 1,000 software developers, partners, industry analysts and media representatives attended the conference held in Singapore recently.
Sales of RIM's smartphones in the Asia market are expected to grow at a pace faster than the industry average in the next four years, said Gregory Wade, regional managing director, RIM East Asia, citing data from IDC.
