DRAM price continues to slide

Tuesday, December 13, 2011

DRAM contract prices fell 7-8% sequentially in the second half of November, pushing the price of 2GB DDR3 and 4GB DDR3 modules to US$10 and US17.5, respectively, indicated industry sources, noting that the decline ratio for DRAM chips has reached almost 50% in the past six months.

Nanya has not yet settled on DRAM contract prices for December with clients, there is little room for the prices to further decrease, Pai stated. However, Pai also admitted that DRAM prices are also unlikely to rebound in the near term due to weak demand from the PC sector.

DRAM makers will also see their revenues decline in December as most clients will not take deliveries in the final week of the year due to the Christmas holidays, Pai added.

The spot prices of branded 2Gb DDR 3 have been upheld in a range from US$0.7-0.8 recently, which will help stabilize the contract quotes, according to industry sources.

Global DRAM revenues are expected to sink 26% in 2011 before managing a 3% growth in 2012, according to an estimate of market research firm Gartner.
