Intel will launch new-generation platforms for use in servers beginning March 2012: Romley-EP made up of Xeon E5-2600 series processors plus C600 chipsets will launch first followed by Itanium processors (Poulson) matched with 7500 series chipsets.

Romley-EP 4S and Romley-EN platforms are also on the roadmap, according to industry sources.

Intel will launch 15 processors under the Xeon E5-2600 series including eight-core E5-2690 priced at US$2,057, six-core E5-2640 and E5-2609 as well as E5-2603, priced at US$202.

In the second quarter, Intel will launch seven new processors under its Xeon E5-2400 series price between US$192-1,440.
