Powertech revenues slip in February

Friday, March 9, 2012 Packaging and testing house Powertech Technology (PTI) saw February revenues down 6.78% on month and 11.5% on year to NT$2.833 billion (US$96 million) due to production cuts at major client Elpida Memory and reduced working days for the month. For the first two months of 2012, revenues amounted to NT$5.87 billion, decreasing 9% from a year earlier. PTI has resumed its regular shipments to Elpida and expects its first-quarter revenues to slip by a single-digit compared to a previous forecast of a double-digit decline, the company said. Meanwhile, PTI has accelerated the adjustment of its product mix to emphasize more on the NAND flash and logic IC segments, while reducing the ratio of DRAM packaging and testing business, the company noted. PTI's cooperation with Elpida and United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) on the development of TSV (through-silicon via) 3D IC integration solutions will continue to proceed as scheduled with small volume production slated for the fourth quarter of 2012, PTI said.
