Samsung to build NAND Flash in Xian

Friday, March 23, 2012 Samsung Electronics Co. , the world's largest memory-chip maker by revenue, said Thursday that it has picked Xian City in China for its planned set-up of a new flash-memory chip manufacturing line in the mainland.

"Discussions are in an early stage and any agreement will be subject to approval by Chinese government agencies," said Samsung in a statement.

Last year, Samsung unveiled its plan to build a new NAND flash memory chip plant in China to help meet the surge in demand for hand-held devices such as smartphones and tablet computers.

The production at the new plant is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2013.

Early January, the South Korean government granted an approval to Samsung to proceed with the plan.
