PC brand vendors have been aggressively unveiling their latest notebook products featuring Intel's third-generation Ivy Bridge-based Core processors, including Hewlett-Packard's (HP's) EliteBook, Dell's XPS 15, Lenovo's ThinkPad, Intel's N series, Sony's VAIO E series and Micro-Star International's (MSI's) GT and GE series.
However, Ivy Bridge-based ultrabooks as well as mainstream Ivy Bridge-based notebook models are unlikely to appear until early June, with Computex 2012 to be the best stage to introduce these new machines, according to sources from supply chain players.
As for Intel's delay of Ivy Bridge from early April, some players believe its is mainly because of yield rates, while some believe that Intel postponed the new chips intentionally to help digest inventories of Sandy Bridge-based notebooks.
Although Ivy Bridge processors are currently suffering from a supply shortage, the sources believe it will only have a limited affect as the new platform's pricing is still rather high. But if the shortage sustains after summer and starts affecting sales during the back-to-school season, then it will create problems for vendors.
