Silicon Motion Technology has started production of eMMC controller ICs for an international supplier of NAND flash and expects to win adoption from another supplier at the end of the second quarter of 2012.
Samsung Electronics adopted Silicon Motion's LTE transceiver ICs for use in four Galaxy series smartphones, with seven additional models, at least, expected in 2012.
Silicon Motion recorded revenues of US$64.02 million, gross margin of 49.5% and net profit of US$14.0 million for the first quarter of 2012. Mobile storage ICs accounted for 72% of first-quarter revenues, mobile communication ICs 23%, multimedia SoC ICs 4% and other ICs 1%.
Silicon Motion forecasts sequential growth of up to 10% in revenue and gross margin of 48-50% for the second quarter of 2012.
