Android 4.0-based tablet PCs will be the dominant products in the segment in the third quarter of 2012 as most brand vendors will not rush to launch Windows 8-based models until the fourth quarter.
The market had originally expected Microsoft to officially release the Windows 8 OS in the second quarter of 2012, allowing brand vendors to roll out products for the end market in June-July.
As a result, brand vendors are expected to launch Android 4.0-based table PCs for the upcoming buying spree in the second half of the year, said the sources.
Microsoft's recent announcement to invest US$300 million to Barnes & Noble's Nook e-book business line has also raised concerns about Microsoft's strategy over content applications among tablet PC vendors, the sources commented.
