Asustek Computer on October 16 unveiled PadFone 2 for launch in the Taiwan market on October 22.

PadFone 2 features Qualcomm's quad-core Snapdragon S4 Cortex A15, Android 4.1, a 4.3-inch screen with Sharp-developed IGZO panel with 1280 by 720 resolution, a 13-megapixel rear camera, weight of 135g and of 649g, with an attached 10.1-inch tablet docking base, Asustek indicated.

PadFone 2 will be sold at retail prices of NT$17,990 (US$613), NT$19,990 and NT$21,900 for 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions, and the dock will cost NT$8,990, Asustek noted. Chunghwa Telecom will cooperate with Asustek to offer contract-bundled sales prices of NT$0-10,900.

Asustek will debut smartphones based on Android and/or Windows Phone 8 in the second quarter of 2013, the company indicated.
