Acer unveil AcerCloud 2.0 service

Friday, October 19, 2012

Acer is looking to launch AcerCloud 2.0, expanding its existing Android service platform to also support both Microsoft Windows and Apple iOS, while the new service will also be expanded from Greater China and North America to Europe, according to market watchers.

AcerCloud 2.0 is estimated to arrive after Windows 8 launches. Currently Acer's S5 ultrabook and CloudMobil S500 smartphone both feature the AcerCloud service.

The market watchers noted that Acer currently does not yet have any obvious plans for business diversification and is mainly focusing on accumulating its resources and developing product lines with potential. Therefore, AcerCloud is expected to help the company to increase the added value of its products.

As for Intel and Acer's meeting recently, rumors have circulated that Acer plans to launch an Intel-based smartphone priced at NT$9,000-13,000 at the end of 2012, but the rumor has not been confirmed by Acer. Acer is estimated to ship 200,000 handsets in 2013, double those of 2011.
