NAND flash price surge 17%

Friday, October 19, 2012

Contract prices for NAND flash memory continued to rally in the first half of October 2012, with quotes for mainstream MLC parts up 17 %.

Early October contract prices for 64Gb MLC chips averaged US$4.99, up 17%, while those for 32Gb parts rose 7% to US$2.59 on average.

Contract prices for mainstream MLC chips are expected to continue their upward trend until mid-November, and whether prices are able to sustain growth through the end of 2012 will depend on demand during the year-end holiday season, as well as replenishment demand prior to the Lunar New Yea.

Contract prices for lower-density 16Gb MLC chips came to US$1.94 on average in the first half of October, down about 3%. Prices for TLC (triple-level cell) NAND chips, used mainly for USB drives and memory cards, have also shown a relatively stable trend.
