Micro-Star International (MSI) will launch several Windows 8 touch-controlled notebooks in North America, Taiwan and Southeast Asia in mid-November.
MSI is also set to release several multimedia C-series and ultra-thin X-series notebooks, while the company's 11.6-inch S20, a device that combines ultrabook with tablet features, will also appear after mid-November priced at around NT$32,000 (US$1,096), and targeting mid-range to high-end market..
As for Windows 8-based tablets, since MSI is rather conservative about the segment, the company has not yet made plans to join the market, but is still selling its Android-based tablets in Southeast Asia and South America.
MSI has started outsourcing some of is motherboard production to China-based OEMs to cut costs, but the company clarified that the strategy is not being adopted purely for cost reductions, as it is only being used when MSI's in-house capacity is overloaded.
MSI provide motherboard manufacturing services for brand vendors including Lenovo and Hewlett-Packard (HP) and the company is expected to ship about five million own-brand motherboards in 2012.
