Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) will be the only supplier of the 20nm process to Xilinx' just-announced 8-series FPGAs, and second-generation 3D ICs and SoCs.
TSMC previously revealed that its 20nm process has received around 50 product tape-outs, with actual production likely to kick off during 2014.
Xilinx on November 13 announced its 20nm portfolio, which builds upon the breakthroughs proven at 28nm to provide an extra generation of system performance, lower power and programmable system integration. The 20nm 8-series FPGAs will provide 2x the performance, half the power, and 1.5 to 2x the integration capabilities over the current generation, Xilinx said in a statement.
