United Microelectronics has announced the appointment of Po-Wen Yen to the position of CEO, effective immediately.Yen previously served as senior VP responsible for UMC's 12-inch operations. Yen joined UMC in 1986, and has experience of managing operations at UMC's 8-inch fabs and the foundry's 12-inch facility in Singapore.
"The move is intended to strengthen UMC's competitiveness as Yen leverages his successful 300mm manufacturing experience, just as the company brings its multi-billion dollar Fab 12A expansion online," UMC said in a statement.
Former CEO Shih-Wei Sun has been promoted to company vice chairman.
