Transcend Information has announced a new distribution partnership with Aeon, Japan's largest retailer.

Transcend is a Taiwan-based memory module maker specializing in flash storage products. Partnering with Aeon will allow Transcend to develop and expand its presence in Japan.

Under the partnership, Aeon will distribute Transcend's memory cards including 16GB Class 10 and Class 4 microSDHC cards in Japan. Transcend also expects demand for microSDHC memory cards to grow along with the rising popularity of smartphones and tablets.

Aeon currently has 2,349 stores across Japan, and reached its highest ever operating revenues of JPY5.2 trillion (US$63.2 billion) in fiscal year 2011.

"Transcend believes that ongoing enhancement and integration of the distribution channel will help to boost sales in the fourth quarter," the firm said in a statement.

In other news, Transcend reported revenues of NT$2.45 billion (US$84.1 millioin) for October 2012, rising 5.3% sequentially and hitting the higest monthly level this year. Sales of consumer flash products accounted for 61.1% of company revenues in October, followed by the industrial and strategic product segment with 28.6%. The sales ratio for standard DRAM products came to only 10.3% in October.
