VIA Labs, a subsidiary of VIA Technologies specializing in USB 3.0 integrated chip controllers, will roll out new solutions for USB flash drives in December. The new VIA VL752-series USB 3.0 flash drive controllers will be built using 85nm process technology, targeting 2-channel designs.
VIA Labs' upcoming 85nm USB 3.0 device controllers support NAND flash chips built using advanced 19nm, 20nm and 21nm processes, according to the company.
In addition, VIA Labs is capable of making USB 3.0 host controllers. The firm recently announced two new solutions, the four-port VIA VL805 and two-port VIA VL806, which comply with the Universal Serial Bus 3.0 specification and Intel's eXtensible Host Controller Interface (xHCI) 1.0 specification, and add native support for Windows 8.
VIA Labs also designs and develops USB 3.0 hub controllers and bridge controllers used in hard disk drives. The firm reportedly has cut into the supply chain of Toshiba with its USB 3.0 bridge chips for HDDs.
