Power Quotient International (PQI) expects to completely phase out its DRAM module business in 2013, as part of the company's business transformation plan, according to Alan Chang, CEO of the company's global operations.
PQI has stepped up efforts to diversify away from computer memory modules and put a lot of focus on wireless peripherals and accessories used in consumer technology products, such as Apple accessories and Wi-Fi storage devices, said Chang.
PQI also is looking to expand its presence in the market for USB 3.0 flash drives, and discontinue USB 2.0 products within six months, Chang noted.
Chang expressed optimism about the USB 3.0 flash drive market. The penetration rate for flash drives with USB 3.0 is likely to reach as high as 70% at the end of 2013, Chang said.
Storage products remain PQI's major business focus, accounting for about 85% of company revenues, according to Chang. The proportion, however, will fall to 70% in 2013 and continue to shrink further as the firm aims to diversify its product lines, said Chang.
