Barnes & Noble has cut the price of its Nook Simple Touch e-reader to $79 from $99 as competition to snag holiday shoppers intensifies.
The New York company's Nook Simple Touch, which is a non-lit black-and-white e-reader, goes up against similar devices made by Amazon, Sony and others.
Barnes & Noble lowered the price on the Nook Simple Touch on Sunday. It can be purchased at almost 700 of the company's stores, its Barnes & Noble college bookstores or on its web site.
Barnes and Noble shares finished at $14.71 on Friday. They are down sharply from their high of $26 on April 30, and fell as low as $9.35 on Jan. 5.
