Open cell TV panels sized 32-inch have recently seen a 1% or US$2 decline due to TV vendors slowing down orders and preparing for new TV arrivals in the beginning of the second quarter of 2013, according to market observers.
The first quarter of each year is traditionally the slow season for TV panel sales and it is not unusual for the panels to decline in price as a result. However, panel makers such as China-based China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT) have had an oversupply in 32-inch TV panels, which has added to the decline in pricing, added the observers.
The observers also said 55-inch Full HD edge-lit LED TV panels have dropped 0.4% or US$2 due to sharp price declines for 60-inch flat screen TV panels while prices for 39-inch ones made by Taiwan-based Innolux Corporation and AU Optronics (AUO) have remained steady.
The Taiwan-based makers are expected to continue bumping up production of the 39-inch panels throughout 2013 as part of their product differentiation strategy, noted the observers.
Meanwhile, the observers also said 40-42 and 46-inch Full HD edge-lit LED TV panels have also dropped by US$1 and are likely to maintain that drop throughout the first quarter.
