United Semiconductor (UMC) has delivered samples of Qualcomm's new 28nm chips for verification.
\UMC also has become aggressive to vie for contract-manufacturing orders for the upcoming Qualcomm solutions, the sources said.
Nevertheless, some market watchers believe that UMC is struggling to ramp yield rates on its 28nm process. UMC's yields on 28nm are still far less than 80%.
Qualcomm is scheduled to launch its next-generatiion 28nm chips in mid-2013.
