HTC to unveil new M7 Smartphone

Friday, January 18, 2013

HTC will likely use Full HD panels made by Sharp for its reported soon-to-be released M7 smartphone due to low OLED yields from Taiwan-based panel maker AU Optronics (AUO).

The sources said that at present AUO is only able to reach yields of 30-40% for its small-size OLED production despite industry rumors stating the company has reached 60%, and is struggling to push resolution above 317ppi.

AUO has been at a standstill with its RGB OLED yields and has not been able to increase them for quite some time due to bottlenecks in the evaporation process, added the sources.

The sources also noted that Samsung Display has been developing OLED panels that have an over 440ppi resolution, which are likely to be used in Samsung Electronic's reported Galaxy S4.
